Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Seen in The Woodlands, TX)

(Male) Those red feathers are not colored red -- but they REFLECT certain lights. If light does not reflect off of the feathers, you might mistakenly think you have an entirely different hummingbird!
What a tongue -- perfect for sucking in the nectar from flowers (or water from a feeder). We are lucky to have a friend at Mercer Arboretum who discovered this female building her nest from lichen and moss. That nest is the size of a WALNUT!
Sitting on her wee-small nest.  That's Mamma's beak, coming to feed "junior."
We got this one last shot of "Junior" just moments before he fledged, left the nest!! (female)
