Black-crested Titmouse

The Black-crested Titmouse (also known as the Mexican Titmouse),  is native to southern Texas, Oklahoma and east-central Mexico. The bird is around 6" long, with rusty flanks, gray upper parts, and a whitish belly. The male has a long, dark black crest that is usually erect, while the female's crest is not as dark.

Although their songs differ, this bird was originally thought to be another version of the Tufted Titmouse, but we now know through DNA that it is genetically very different!
VERDIN
Verdin (a family all it's own!)
Verdin - This is a tiny spry bird that inhabits scrub country (western half of the U.S.). Note the bright yellow head and the dot on red on his shoulder.
