Belted Kingfisher

The Belted Kingfisher is the only one that ranges throughout most of North America.  (The Rio Grande Valley is the only place in the U.S. where you might see all three kingfishers at any one time.) These are females ... the name "belted" comes from the glue-gray band across the breast.  The female has a chestnut-colored band as well.
There was a bit of rivalry here!
