Anhinga, male - Like the Cormorants, the anhingas feathers are not water-proof (thus allowing them to dive underwater to get fish). They spend much time out-of-water drying their feathers! Anhinga, female
  Per our friend, John Jones, "distinguishing a female Anhinga from a juvenile or immature isn't easy since both sexes look alike until their third winter.  As a general rule, the immature birds are browner overall and have less silver on their wing patches than the adult female."
